Your books and thoughts stay on your device. This policy explains the app, website, purchases, and support.

1. Who we are

Margin is provided by magiclabs GmbH, Rosengarten 9, 49456 Bakum, Germany. Contact hello@magiclabs.dev for privacy requests. Our company details are in the Imprint.

2. Your reading in the app

Books, pasted text, reading intentions, reading-session timestamps, reader preferences, and reflections are stored in the app’s local storage. Margin has no account, cloud library, advertising SDK, or reading analytics. We do not receive this content. Apple device backups may include it according to your backup settings.

On compatible devices, an optional Apple Foundation Models feature creates a reflection question about the displayed passage. It runs on the device. Margin does not send passages or notes to a model server. If the feature is unavailable, a standard prompt remains available.

3. Purchases

Optional Margin Plus purchases are processed by Apple using StoreKit. The app reads Apple-signed transaction information to verify your purchase, restore access, and respond to refunds or revocations. We do not receive payment-card details or your reading content. Apple processes purchases under its own privacy terms and provides developers with standard sales and financial reporting. No third-party purchase SDK is included in Margin.

4. Website and email

This website is hosted by Vercel. Delivering and securing pages requires technical request information such as IP address, requested path, user agent, and timestamp. Vercel processes this information as a hosting provider. We have not added advertising, marketing pixels, visitor analytics, or nonessential cookies. The interactive reading sample only keeps its timer in memory and does not save or transmit your reading activity.

If you email support, we process the address and information you provide to respond. Please avoid sharing private notes or passages unless necessary. Clicking an email link opens your email app; it does not automatically send a message.

5. Purposes, legal bases, and retention

Where personal data is processed, the purposes are providing the requested service and support (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR), maintaining security and operating the website (Article 6(1)(f)), and satisfying applicable legal obligations (Article 6(1)(c)). Optional communications requiring consent rely on Article 6(1)(a). No reading content is used for advertising or to train a model by magiclabs.

Local content remains until you remove it, erase the app’s data, or uninstall the app; copies in device backups follow Apple’s settings. Support correspondence and technical logs are retained only as needed for their purposes, subject to provider settings and legal retention duties. Purchase and financial records may need to be retained independently of app deletion.

6. Providers and international transfers

Apple handles App Store services under its own terms. Website hosting and email providers may process information outside the EEA. Where required, transfers rely on an applicable adequacy decision, standard contractual clauses, or another lawful mechanism. Contact us for information about the safeguards applicable to your request.

7. Your choices and rights

Settings offers a free full data export and an erase option. Sharing an export sends it only to the destination you choose. You may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability of data we hold, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw it. These rights are subject to legal conditions. You can complain to a data-protection authority, including the competent authority in Lower Saxony or where you live.

We do not use Margin for decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you. Margin is designed for general adult readers and is not a children’s service.
